BONNIE J. THARP, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, July 13, 2008 at Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield.
Born on January 6, 1928 in Eureka, Kansas, she was the daughter of Luther C. and Jettie (DeArtley) Tharp. She was raised and received her education in Leon, Kansas where she graduated from Leon High School in 1946. She attended William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield.
She was united in marriage in 1951 to George W. Tharp in Winfield. The couple lived in Greensburg, Latham and Beaumont, Kansas. She worked as a registered nurse at William Newton Memorial Hospital, Snyder Clinic and the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. Bonnie was also a Director of Education and Training at WSHTC. She served as an instructor at Cowley County Community College and was a member of the William Newton Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni. Mr. Tharp preceded her in death on June 14, 2001.
She was a member of the Church of God and Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing, camping and helping others.

Her half-brother: Kenneth Truxal, of Bartlesville, OK; and
Her nieces and nephews: Charles & Mary Manley of Arkansas City, KS; and J.C. and Donna Rhoades of Bartlesville, OK.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Lynn Tharp; and her half-brother, Clifford Truxal.
Cremation has taken place.
Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may sign a register book at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
A memorial has been established in Bonnie's name for the William Newton Hospital Nurses Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
