Bonnie Leah Henery, 99, of Dexter, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, January 29, 2020 in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Bonnie was born June 2, 1920 in Dexter to Seward and Lydia (Wise) Day. She was baptized at the Dexter Christian Church in 1936. Bonnie graduated Dexter High School in 1939.

She married Lawrence "Dutch" Henery on April 8, 1941. The couple had two children, E. Nick and Lydia Sue. They lived in Deepwater, Missouri, where they raised their family. Bonnie was a Campfire Girls leader for six years and enjoyed taking them camping and fishing. She was also Den Mother for the boy scouts. She taught the Beginners Class at church and loved every moment. She was a nurse at the Wetzel Hospital for a few years and later went to work for Dr. Harbaugh at the Wetzel Clinic. After 30 years in Missouri, Bonnie and Dutch moved to the Flying "D" Ranch in Cedar Vale, Kansas in 1975. Dutch preceded her in death on February 27, 2011.

Bonnie belonged to the Red Bud and Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddlers, where she regularly attended dances. She loved to sew, making quilts and crocheting for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an outdoors person who loved to work in her garden and go fishing. Bonnie was an avid sports fan and loved the Kansas City Royals. As a young high school student, she enjoyed playing basketball and softball, and was pitcher for the Dexter softball team. She loved being a nurse. She was also a dog lover.

Bonnie's family includes her son E. Nick Henery and wife Neda of Houston, TX; daughter Lydia Sue Norlund of Arkansas City; five grandchildren, Dustin and Jacqueline Norlund, Natalie and Christopher Pease, Giovanna and Dustin Tucker, Gabrielle Nicole Henery and Angela Bosco-Lauth, and Paulie and Timothy Wharton; two great grandchildren, Ashton Henery and Wylder Lawrence Pease; dear friends, Barbara Crews and Larry Norlund; and lots of old time fiddlers; and her K9 companion Lucky.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Radcliff and Naomi Waldorf, and brothers, Ernest, Jim, and John Day.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the Dexter Christian Church. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Bonnie's name for the Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
