Bonnie June (Myrick) Eaton, 88, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, January 27, 2021 at William Newton Hospital.
Born November 30, 1932 in Atlanta, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Winnie (Meek) Myrick. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School in 1950. She went to work at Beech Aircraft in Wichita in 1951 as a secretary and riveter where she remained until 1968. While at Beech she became a pilot and enjoyed flying private planes.
She later attended Wichita State University obtaining her bachelor's degree in 1973. She majored in Art Studio and Art History and minored in Education. Following college, Bonnie began teaching elementary school in Wellington until 1983. She then moved to Humboldt where she continued her teaching career as a high school art teacher and finally moved to Hillsboro where she remained until her retirement. After retirement she moved back to her childhood home. The community of Atlanta meant a lot to Bonnie, she enjoyed visiting with friends at the Atlanta Cafe. She also enjoyed time with her cats.
Bonnie loved art and was on the American Crafts Council. She had art displays in Wichita, and exhibits held in Wellington, Leavenworth, and Winfield. She was also a published author receiving many awards for her writing. Her art shows and book tours took her all over the country.
Her family includes her daughter Angela; her nephews, Bruce Strauhs, Mike and Tracy Sturm; and her cats, Sprout and Farrah.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sisters, Freda (Myrick) Strauhs, Betty (Myrick) Bishop, and Winnie (Myrick) Sturm.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Monday evening from 4 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a Good Samaritan fund has been established in Bonnie's name at Timbercreek Friends Church. The funds will be used for emergency pet care. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
