Bobby G. Martin, 88, of Newkirk, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday evening, April 10, 2016 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas.

Born July 31, 1927 in Okemah, Oklahoma, he was the son of Monty and Dessie (Armstrong) Martin. He was raised and received his education in Ralston, Oklahoma, graduating from Ralston High School in 1945. After school, he was drafted into the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Ralston.

He was united in marriage to Willa Dean Wedd on December 2, 1950 in Norman, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Ralston. Bob farmed for a short time with Floyd Kelley before going to work in the oil fields. The family moved to Winfield in 1965 where Bob worked for Porter Trucking, before going to work at GE. In 1981, he and Willa moved to Newkirk, Oklahoma. Bob continued working for GE for over 23 years, retiring as a mechanic in 1989.

After retiring, he enjoyed traveling from New York to Arizona to visit his brothers and sisters. The couple also enjoyed vacations in Branson, Missouri. Bob particularly enjoyed riding the go-carts and loved the funnel cakes. He enjoyed going to the county fair to watch the demolition derby and figure 8 races. He especially loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Most of Bob's retirement was spent going to auctions and buying things to tinker on, such as old trucks, tractors and mowers. He was a master piddler.

His grandchildren: Debbie Snively and husband, Rich; Bobbie Claphan; Dwayne Smith and wife, Mary Ann; Crystal Samms and husband, Gary; Tina Eakin and husband, Patrick; Bradley Martin and Brenna Thomas; Lindsey Martin and Ko Glasco; Toby Tucker and husband, Chad; Lacy Pratt and husband Ryan; Cody Venable and Velinda;
His great grandchildren: Christopher Snively; Tyson Snively; Taylor Tatro and husband, Kyle; Mariah Snively; Erica Smith; Rilley Venable; Eli Samms; Madison Hasty; Ellie Samms; Seth Hasty; John Ryan Pratt; Breckin Martin; Paige Pratt; Asha Pratt; and
His two great-great grandchildren: Brinley Tatro and Carson Snively.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his children, Bobby Dwayne Martin and Mary Lou Smith and her husband, David and his brothers, Dale and Kenneth Martin.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Riverside Cemetery in Ralston, Oklahoma. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in Bobby's name for the K&O Steam and Gas Engine Association and for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
