Bob J. Wesbrooks, 86, formerly of Burden, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, in Clearwater.
Bobby Joe Wesbrooks, "Mr. Bob", was born September 27, 1936, to Hollis and Rhoda Wesbrooks. He was born at his home in Burden. On December 26, 1955, Bob married his highschool sweetheart, Gayle Dozer in Winfield, Kansas. They established their home in Burden, and lived their entire married life there.
Mr. Bob received his highschool education in Burden. He received his Bachelor degree from Emporia State University and his Master's degree from Wichita State University. Bob began teaching in the Burden school system in 1957 and remained until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure with the school system, he taught 5th and 6th grades for six years and Industrial Education for ten years; he was the elementary school principal for two years, and the junior senior high school principal for seventeen years. Mr. Bob coached boys' and girls' basketball, drove a school bus for 14 years, and taught drivers' education for many years (of which he enjoyed telling many stories). Bob also served as the junior and senior class sponsor for many years, he received several awards including Outstanding Educator, Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year, and Outstanding Administrator of Kansas.
In his freetime, Mr. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, bird watching, telling jokes, and conversing with friends, family, and the general public. Mr. Bob found joy in giving his time and resources to help people.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Rhoda Wesbrooks, his wife Gayle, his brothers, Raymond, Wallace, Earl, and Bill, and his sister Sybil Kester.
Survivors are his daughter Pam (Mark) Jones of Burden; son Darren (Sandie) Wesbrooks of Clearwater; grandchildren, Caleb Jones of Burden, Hailee (Daniel) Hamby of Rose Hill; Derik (Molly) Jones of Winfield; Jordan (Katie) Wesbrooks of Goddard; great grandchildren, Olive, Josie, Drake, Opal, Maren, Lucie, Brewer, and Sophie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Burden Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Bob's name for The River Church in Clearwater and for Burden United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
