BLANCHE SAMMS, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, February 7, 2013 at her home.
Born on February 13, 1915 in rural Tisdale, Kansas, she was the daughter of William Alvin and Veva Arera (Peninger) Garber. She was raised in rural Tisdale and received her early education at the Old Salem School.
She was united in marriage to William Samms on March 14, 1935 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in rural Winfield and Blanche was a fulltime homemaker. Mr. Samms preceded her in death on April 7, 1987.
Blanche enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, canning, embroidery and crossword puzzles.

Her great-grandchildren: Jessica Hoskins and husband Edwin, Ashley Barber and husband David, Vicki Jo Flippo, Morgan Flippo, Bill Flippo Jr. and wife Char, Misty Finney and husband Brett, Darrin Farnsworth, Eli Samms, Ellie Samms, Steven McLendon, Matthew McLendon, Thomas McLendon, and Gary McLendon;
Her great-great-grandchildren: Aubrey Hoskins, Cloey Hoskins, Bevan Hoskins, Lyric Hoskins, Eva-May Barber, DJ Barber, Shawn Flippo, Nathan Flippo, Hunter Flippo, Kayleigh Finney, Erica Finney, Cole Finney, Quentin Farnsworth and Shelby Farnsworth; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd & Doyle Garber, her sister, Ethel Workman, her daughter-in-law, Lynn Samms, and her great-grandson, Gary Steven McLendon.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6:30 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Blanche's name for the Winfield Area EMS and the Grandview United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
