Obituary

BILLY M. SPENCER, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, December 24, 2010 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Born on May 19, 1924 in New Salem, Kansas, he was the son of Harry Raymond and Ruth Ann (Wright) Spencer. He was raised and received his education in rural New Salem.

He was united in marriage on June 30, 1945 to Bertha Jean Tuggle in Winfield where the couple made their home. He worked in the oilfields for 4 years and later worked for Leo Foote at the gas station. In 1965, Billy was began employment at Binney & Smith Crayola and retired in 1985 due to failing health.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Winfield. His hobbies included playing with his grandkids, fishing and woodworking.

His family includes:
His wife: Jean of Winfield, KS;
His son: Terry Spencer and wife Melody of Little Elm, TX;
His daughter: Sharon Moore Vanderpool and husband Bob of Arkansas City, KS;
His daughter in law: Linda Spencer of Winfield, KS;
His 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, and one great-great grandchild on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Spencer; and his brother Merle Dean Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 29, 2010. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Bill's name for the Evangelical Free Church and the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
