Bill J.
Newman
Dec 22, 1932 — Jul 2, 2026
Bill Joe Newman, 93, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 2, 2026, at the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.
Born December 22, 1932, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, he was the son of Joseph Lawrence and Grace Amanda (Dye) Newman. He was raised and received his early education in Oklahoma. The family lived in Oklahoma but would travel to Wichita, Kansas, during the war, working for Boeing.
He was united in marriage to Una Yvonne Almquist on April 6, 1952, in Wichita. The couple made their first home in Wichita. Bill started his parts career at Cowie Electric in Wichita as a delivery driver, eventually becoming a traveling salesman for the company in Kansas and Oklahoma. In 1961, he moved his family to Winfield, to manage Brad’s Magneto, which he later purchased. People say, he was the best partsman around. Many would seek his advice, even after he retired. Yvonne preceded him in death on October 6, 2010. Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, telling stories, and traveling.
He is survived by his children, Debra Clifford (Mark) of Winfield; Dr. Mark Alan Newman (Cindy) of Lake Forest Park, WA; his grandchildren, Amy Holloway (Corey) of Winfield; Meagan Newman (Ian) of Edmonds, WA; Canon Rupple of Washington; Hannah Rupple of Washington; his great grandchildren, Mark W., Sierra, Isa, Piper, Brooklyn “Boogie”, Max, and Mara; and his great-great grandchildren, Rylen and Kellson.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a sister Juanita Combs, two brothers, Hubert “Buck” Newman and Bobbie Lee Newman, two sons, Michael R. Newman and David K. Newman, and a grandson Joshua Allen Clifford.
Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery at a later date under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
A memorial has been established in Bill’s name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
