Beverly Ruth Reiter, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, August 10, 2019 at Cumbernauld Village.
Born April 17, 1936 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Chester and Ann (Cox) Boswell. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City. She is a graduate of Arkansas City High School, and Phillips University. She received a master's degree from Wichita State University, as well as a master's in library media science from Emporia State University.
She was united in marriage to Clarence "Scott" Reiter on June 6, 1959 in Winfield. The couple made their home in the Akron community and owned and operated the Little Pirate Ranch. As a teacher, Beverly served several communities over the years, including Winfield, Sunnyside, Udall, and Mulvane. She also served in several professional organizations, including secretary of Winfield NEA, Cowley County Teacher's Association, Mulvane NEA, American Association of University Women, serving as secretary and president, as well as serving as president of Delta Kappa Gamma. Beverly was also involved with many agricultural organizations. She served as secretary, treasurer, and president of Cowley County Cattle Women, Kansas CowBelles, Kansas Wheat Hearts, and Kansas and Cowley County Farm Bureau. She also served as an advisor to the Farm Service Agency, Supervising Judge for general elections for Fairview and Rock, served as secretary and a board member of the Cowley County Rural Water District #7, and Cooperettes. Scott preceded her in death on November 21, 2010.
Beverly was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, serving as their librarian for many years. She was an avid volunteer for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary, where she had been a member since 2004, and served as president for three years and chair of the scholarship committee for four years. She also served as secretary on the Cowley County Hospice Board.
Her family includes her daughter Renee Sanchez and husband, Milton of Winfield; her grandchildren, Anne-Marie, Alex, and Angela; and seven nieces and nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 15, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Private family inurnment will take place at Akron Cemetery at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Beverly's name for the Alzheimer's Association and Cowley County Mental Health. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
