Obituary

Betty Louise Thompson, 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, December 20, 2022, at her home.

Born August 13, 1937, in Oxford, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ralph and Maude (Langdale) Reynolds. She was raised and received her education in Oxford, graduating from Oxford High School in 1955.

Betty was united in marriage to Gerald W. Thompson on October 4, 1956, at her parents' home in Oxford. The couple made their home in Winfield, where Betty worked in the Surgical Department at William Newton Hospital. She later worked as a Medical Assistant for Dr. R.B. White. In 1979, Betty left her job to help care for her grandchildren. Gerald preceded her in death on June 13, 1988.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Douglass. She enjoyed embroidering, working puzzles, and playing dominoes and other games with her grandchildren. Betty loved quilting, and was a member of the Quilters Guild which took her all over the world, including Alaska and Germany. She also enjoyed all things Amish, going to Yoder, collecting Amish items, and researching their history.

Her family includes her daughters, Theresa McDonald and husband, David of Douglass; Carol Wirth and husband, Vern of Winfield; her sister Dixie Waltrip and husband, Ron of Wellington; her grandchildren, Mariah Wirth, Amber Johnson, Ashlee Perkins, Jeff Froese, Bobby Perkins, Brad Perkins, Jennifer Ochmanski, Christian Wirth, and Melissa Thompson; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her beloved dog Presley; and a host of nephews, nieces, and step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a sister Patty Reynolds, and her brother Billy Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.
