Obituary

Betty Ruth Scarth, 78, of Derby, Kansas, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, July 18, 2016, at Westview Manor in Derby.

Born October 4, 1937 in Grenola, Kansas, she was the daughter of C.E. "Jack" and Isabel (Ward) Sutton. She was raised and received her education in Grenola, graduating from Grenola High School in 1955.

Betty was united in marriage to Larry L. Scarth on May 19, 1957 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. Betty began working at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and later worked at Southwestern College. She then went to work for BeechCraft, where she remained until retiring in the accounting department in 1996. Mr. Scarth preceded her in death on February 20, 2010. She was a member of Derby Church of Christ.

Her sons: Larry Scarth and wife, Bonnie of Derby; Harry Scarth of Winfield; Christopher Scarth of Valley Center;
Her daughter: Vivian Mickle of Lincoln, NE;
Her brothers: Earl Sutton and wife, Pat of Cambridge; Jack Sutton and wife, Nina of Burden; Boyd Sutton and wife, Judy of Winfield;
His sisters: Joan Hawley of Cambridge; Darlene Krug and husband, Carroll of Cambridge; and
Her 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Derby Church of Christ in Derby, Kansas. Burial will take place at 2:00 that afternoon at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or to Derby Church of Christ. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
