Obituary

Betty R. Reed, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 29, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Oxford with close family at her side.

Born October 12, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Henry and Fleta R. (Dust) Goodaile. She was raised and received her education in Winfield. After school Betty worked at Armours Creamery.

Betty was united in marriage to Robert A. Reed on December 22, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Betty worked at Sheneman's Meat Market, and later at St. Mary's Hospital.

When Bob reenlisted in the United States Army in the late 50's. Betty and their daughters followed him to Germany, New Mexico and later Ft. Riley, KS. After his retirement in 1975 they returned to Winfield.

Betty stayed at home for a number of years and spent lots of time with her grandchildren. She later took a job at the high school in the cafeteria for a few years. When her great-grandchildren came along she was always available to baby-sit and loved every minute of it.

She was a well loved member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Winfield. She enjoyed planting flowers, having tea parties with her great grandchildren, and going for car rides to get ice cream. She was happiest when spending time with her family.

Her granddaughter: Kimberly Randall and husband, Todd of Winfield;
Her grandsons: Jeff McPherson of Lawrence; Justin McPherson and wife, Laura of Winfield;
Her great granddaughters: Kylie and Emily Randall;
Her great grandson: Barrett McPherson;
Her sister-in-law: Ruth Wengeler and husband, Francis of Winfield;
Her brother-in-law: Marshall Martin and wife, Lola of Winfield;
Her close friends: Gayle and Randy Jaegers; and
Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her daughter Carrie Reed, and her two sisters, Lola Neal and Luetta Doolittle.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday August 4, 2010. The family will greet visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Betty's name for the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
