Betty "Charlene" Rader, 76, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, January 26, 2017 at the Newton Medical Center in Newton, Kansas.
Born December 7, 1940 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Johnnie Morris and Dorothy Muriel (Gray) Howard. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and Wichita North High School. Her mother passed away at a young age and Betty looked to her aunt/step mother, Mary Howard, for maternal guidance.
She was united in marriage to Scott LeRoy Rader on December 10, 1956 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Wichita until Scott was called to preach and they moved to Marlow, Oklahoma. They moved back to Wichita in 1975 until they built their home in Douglass in 1984. Betty worked at Boeing in the B52 Fleet Support. She and Scott moved south of August in 1992. While working and raising her family, she returned to school and received her Associates Degree from Butler County Community College, her Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern College and in 2002, graduated from Kansas State University with a Master's in Adult Continuing Education. She retired from Boeing in 2005. Scott preceded her in death on June 23, 2010.
Betty was a spiritual mother to many and loved sharing the Lord. She also enjoyed playing noodle ball, baking, playing card games with family and enjoying nature.

Her children: David Rader and wife, Nancy of Wellington; Jim Rader and wife, Cindy of Derby; Joel Rader of Augusta; Christy Goodwin and husband, Jerry of Ottawa, Ontario;
Her brothers: Gary Howard and wife, Bonita of Hesston; Johnnie Howard, Jr. of Wichita;
Her sister: Mary Lou Howard of Wichita;
Her grandchildren: Sarah Rader, Blake Rader, Dilon Rader, Kaylee Conner, Annie Goodwin, Carson Goodwin; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Jimmie, Wayne, Robert and Mike.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Betty's name for the Showalter Nursing Home in Hesston. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
