Obituary

Betty J. Miller, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Monday morning, September 14, 2015 at her home.

Born December 21, 1931 in Weslaco, Texas, she was the daughter of Earl Floyd and Esther Mildred (Gill) Shea. She was raised and received her early education in Wichita. The family later moved to Winfield where Betty graduated from Winfield High School in 1950.

Betty was united in marriage to Melvin M. Miller on December 3, 1950. The couple lived for a time on the Gill farm west of Winfield. They later moved to the family farm east of Winfield. Betty worked for Winfield State Hospital and Training Center from 1965 to 1967. In 1967, she began working for Binney and Smith Crayola Factory in the Paint Department, retiring in 1997, after 30 years of service. Mr. Miller preceded her in death on June 14, 2003.

She was a member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, the Ark City Mavericks, the Winfield Saddle Club and South Central Kansas Kennel Club. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, coloring, doing yard work, participating in rodeos, raising Irises and going to Iris flower shows as well as raising Dobermans. Betty especially loved spending time with her children and family.

Her family includes:
Her sons: Barry Curtis Miller and wife, Debbie of Oxford; Dudley Wade Miller of Winfield;
Her daughters: Barbara Jean Marler of Winfield; Linda JoAnn Weathers and husband, Rodger of Winfield; Connie Lynn Miller of Winfield; Kerri Leah Miller of Winfield; and
Her 18 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren with one on the way, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her grandson, Christopher Allen Kennedy.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Betty's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
