Obituary

Betty Hoyt, 79, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Wednesday morning, January 13, 2016 at her home.

Born March 10, 1936 in Rock, Kansas, she was the daughter of Cecil and Frances (Johnson) Nichols. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1954.

Betty was united in marriage to Harley Hoyt on November 28, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield and remained in the Winfield area until 1960, when they moved to a farm east of Rock. In 1967, they moved north of Winfield where they continued to farm and ranch. From 1977 to 1987, Betty drove a school bus for USD 465. In 1984, the couple moved back to Winfield.

She was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life.

Her husband: Harley Hoyt of Winfield;
Her daughters: Jackie Spencer and husband, Ronnie of Winfield; Harlene Hoyt-Johnson and husband, Scott Johnson of Winfield;
Her son: Rex Hoyt and wife, Sheila of Leon;
Her brother: Walt Nichols and wife, Cheri of Winfield; and
Her nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Watt.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Betty's name for Relay For Life. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
