Betty Joye (Baird) Haworth, 97 of Grand Island, NE passed away at Good Samaritan Society on January 22, 2021.
Betty was born on February 12, 1923 to Claude and Annie (Mueller) Baird on a farm west of Latham, Kansas. She was raised and received her education from Latham grade and high school and graduated in 1942.
Betty was united in marriage to Chalmer Haworth on May 9, 1944 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in the community east of Atlanta, Kansas where they farmed and raised cattle. They moved to town in 1968.
Betty was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church, member of Burden Eastern Star #128, was a Life member of Queen City Chapter #138 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of CDO Club. In past years she was active in Vacation Bible School and taught a CYF class. She also had been very involved in organizing Sunrise Services and the breakfast following the Service. For a time, she was the contact person to donate for ordering flowers for funerals in the Atlanta Community.
She had been an aide at William Newton Hospital in Winfield and loved taking care of her patients. For many years she was the local Avon representative for the Atlanta Community.
Her family includes: a daughter, Anna of Wichita; a son Earl and wife Kat of Grand Island, NE; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Baird and sister-in-law Catherine Baird and sisters Evelyn Beagley and brother-in-law Ott Beagley; Claudia Barnickle and brother-in-law Raymond Barnickle.
A memorial has been established in Betty's name for the Atlanta Community Building. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
Due to the Covid virus, a private family graveside service will be held at Atlanta Cemetery.
