Obituary

BETTY JEAN (DANIELS) MARKLEY, 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, January 31, 2014 at her home.

Born September 25, 1928 in Amorita, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Sidney James and Clemenza Abigail (Barber) Daniels. She was raised and received her education in the Amorita and Byron, Oklahoma area, graduating from Byron High School as Validictorian of her class in 1945. She attended and graduated Cosmetology school in Enid, Oklahoma.

Betty was united in marriage to Wayne E. Markley on December 3, 1950 in Winfield where the couple made their home. She worked as a Beautician for several years, alongside her sister-in-law, Carmel Miller. She also made a career as a homemaker, taking care of her family and cared for many children for her friends and family. Wayne preceded her in death on January 15, 2006.

Betty was a member of the Free Methodist Church until its' closing. She joined and was currently a member of GracePointe Assembly of God Church. She was very active in her church. She taught Sunday School and held numerous offices and positions at the church. Betty loved her church and made it a very big part of her life. She also enjoyed gardening. She especially loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family includes:
Her son: Stephen Markley of Winfield;
Her daughters: Nancy Markley of Winfield; and Rebecca Orr and husband, Steven of Eau Claire, WI;
Her grandchildren: Jessica Markley, Jamie Markley, Jonathan Orr and Hannah Blank-Orr; and
Her great-grandchildren: Skylar and Summer Markley, Wesley, Owen and Graham Lideen, Timothy, Sophia and Joseph Orr, and Reece and Rilynn Blank.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Wayne Markley in 1981, her brothers, Samuel and Archie Ray Daniels and her sister, Claudia May Tucker. Betty was the last member of the Greatest Generation on both sides of her family.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at GracePointe Assembly of God. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Monday evening from 4 to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in Betty's name for GracePointe Assembly of God and for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
