BARBARA PARSONS, 85, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Thursday evening, February 25, 2010 at William Newton Hospital.
Born March 9, 1924 in Winfield, Barbara was the daughter of Ernest A. and Mabel B. (Bailey) Briscoe. She was raised and received her education at Winfield High School and later at Southwestern College.
She was united in marriage to Harley Bruce Parsons on May 21, 1944 at Tisdale United Methodist Church. They began their married life on a farm owned by Earl Fromm. The couple farmed wheat and alfalfa, ran cattle, raised chickens and sold eggs. They purchased their own farm between Cambridge and Dexter and moved to it in 1949. Barbara was a 4-H Leader and a Sunday School leader. The family left the farm in 1962, and Barbara has lived in Winfield since that time. She worked at Gordon & Piatt at Strother Field of twenty years.
Barbara was a member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church and later transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. She enjoyed reading, feeding the birds, flowers, people and church.

Her son-in-law: John Buchanan of Springfield, Missouri;
Her grandsons: Wendell Andrea and wife, Kristen of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Eric Andrea and wife, Cayla of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Teresa Buchanan of Freemont, California; and David Buchanan and wife, Jodi of Bentonville, Arkansas; and
Her 6 great grandchildren: Carrie, Bryce, Cheyenne, Lea, Ava and Matthew.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harley on April 13, 2009, and her daughter, Virginia on October 22, 2008.
Cremation has been effected. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Private inurnment has taken place. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to Habitat for Humanity. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
