Obituary

AZEM G. (A.G.) LAWSON, Jr., 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, July 14, 2008, at his home.

Born on June 28, 1941, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, he was the son of Azem Garfield and Florence Lorene (Gee) Lawson. He was raised and educated in Ponca City graduating from Ponca City High School.

A.G. was united in marriage to Linda J. Brakey in Winfield on April 2, 1960. The couple moved to the Winfield area in the Summer of 1981. He worked for a service station during high school and later for Jack Bowker Ford in Ponca City. He then went to work for GE in 1966. He retired after 35 years, in August of 2001.

A.G. was a member of the Winfield Saddle Club. He loved riding horses and wagons, welding and woodworking. He also enjoyed camping and doing home projects.

His daughter: Carol L. Selvey and husband, Marvin of Minot, ND;
His son: Brian K. Lawson and wife, Johnnie of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Sara, Casey, Chris, and Meaghen;
His brothers: Kenneth L. Lawson and wife, Marilyn of Ponca City, OK; Steven W. Lawson and wife, Martha of Ponca City, OK; Douglas Lawson of Helena, OK; and Donald K. Lawson of Ponca City, OK;
His sisters: Mrs. Robert (Doris) Elkins of Universal, IN; Mrs. Emery (Helen) Cook of Ponca City, OK; and Mrs. Marvin (Lynda) Driskall of Enid, OK.

In addition to his parents, A.G. was preceded in death by his sisters, Mrs. Vernus (Blanch) Bookout, Mrs. Richard (Florence M.) Carson, and Mrs. Gary (Mary F.) Kirchenbauer.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday afternoon, July 18, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. at the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church at 2230 N. Union, in Ponca City, OK. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Friends and family may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7.

A Memorial has been established in Mr. Lawson's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
