Obituary

AVOLA R. CAYTON, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, July 3, 2009 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

Born December 4, 1920 in Neodesha, Kansas, she was the daughter of Elmer and Etta Laura (Hicks) Payne. She was raised and received her education in Lawrence, Kansas.

Avola was united in marriage to Richard Roma Cayton in Lawrence, Kansas on April 9, 1939. Mrs. Cayton was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She also worked at the Beauty Shop in Herington, Kansas; she was a secretary for Shaft Hay and Grain in Newton, Kansas; she was a legal secretary; and was department manager for Lerners. Avola retired in 1975. The couple lived in Lawrence, Coffeyville, Newton, Winfield, Hutchinson and Cheney, Kansas and Independence, Missouri. Mr. Cayton preceded her in death on September 19, 1980. Avola moved to Winfield, Kansas after his death.

She was a member of the First Church of God. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Avola was an artist and loved ceramics, crocheting, sewing and crafts. She also enjoyed dancing and singing, playing cards and being in the sun. She especially loved her dogs and spending time her grandchildren.

Her family includes:
Her daughters: Sheron Tiller and husband, Richard of Luling, TX; Shirley Hoyt and husband, Rex of Burden, KS; and Judythe McLaughlin of Luling, TX;
Her 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Avola was preceded in death by her son, her fivegrandsons, one great-grandson and eleven siblings.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Mrs. Cayton's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
