Arthur was born September 23, 1935, to Milo Eugene and Mandy Alberta Ella (Thompson)  Day, on a back porch in Beagle, Kansas.  As a small child, his family moved to the Kansas City and Avondale area.  They later moved to a farm in rural Osawatomie, Kansas.  Art attended schools in Beagle, Lane, and Osawatomie, graduating from Osawatomie High School.  His first job was milking the family cow.  He also worked alongside his father, building houses.  As a teen, he sold movie tickets and worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital.

On November 2, 1953, Art enlisted in the United States Army.  He boarded a ship in New York harbor and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.  Following his honorable discharge in September 1956, he was employed at Boeing in Wichita.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty "Jo" Lucille Lessert Kekahbah.  The couple married on November 2, 1957.  They made their first home in Wichita, later moving to Clearwater and finally settling in Peck, Kansas.  Art worked for Utility contractors, TWA, and Western Auto.  He was at Cessna Aircraft Company for 29 years before retiring as a Planner.  Betty Jo preceded him in death on November 15, 2005.

Music was a big part of Art's life.  He could play guitar, banjo, fiddle, and piano.  From a young age, Art enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.

His family includes his daughters, Vonna Jo (Kekahbah) Moore; Guylene Montgomery and husband, Steve; Jolene Eastman and husband, Tim; his grandchildren, Billy Jack Moore and wife, Deana; Jeremy Ward and wife, Cecelia; JaCinda Miller and husband, James; Scott Montgomery and wife, Mistee; Steven Montgomery and wife, Melissa; Tyler Ward and wife, Ashlynn; 34 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
