Arthur Dale Ankrom, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, August 4, 2022, at his home.
Born May 4, 1940, in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of Owen Arthur and Opal (Hendrickson) Ankrom. He was raised and received his education in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1958. After school, he moved to Winfield and began working at Sonner Burner Company.
Arthur was united in marriage to Carmen Powers on May 28, 1961, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Arthur worked for the State of Kansas Fire Department. He then worked as a painter with Ernie Moore until beginning his career as a maintenance painter at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. He later became the Supervisor of the Painting Department, a position he held through the closing of the state hospital and continued with the Winfield Correctional Facility. Arthur retired from the Winfield Correctional Facility in 2002.
He was a member of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, water skiing, and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing trips to the Roaring River each Fall.
His family includes his wife Carmen of Winfield; his daughter Terri Miller and husband, Charles of Winfield; his son Robert T. Ankrom and wife, Dayla of Topeka; his grandchildren, Alissa Laughlin and husband, Mike of Lakewood, CO; Crystal O'Farrell and husband, Chad of Topeka; Robert D. Ankrom of Wellington; his great granddaughter Lindsay O'Farrell; his dog and body guard Scruffy; and his cats, Hammy and Mozart.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his brother Ray Eugene Ankrom.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 7 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Arthur's name for the Cowley County Humane Society and for Cambridge Cemetery Headstone Repair Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
