Obituary

Arnold V. Paulsen, 96, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Victorville, California.

Born September 26, 1914 in Illinois, he was the son of Fredrick and Melita (Neilsen) Paulsen. He was raised and received his education in Chicago. After school Arnold went to work for the CDC for a short time before beginning work for Santa Fe Railroad. In 1943 he joined the United States Navy, and proudly served his country in World War II. While in the war he served on a repair boat in the South Pacific. On December 14, 1945 he was honorably discharged and returned to Chicago where he returned to work for Santa Fe Railroad.

He was united in marriage on September 28, 1946 to Silva Rambeaux at the Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Illinois. The couple made their first home in Chicago. In 1956 Arnold was transferred with the railroad and they moved to Turner, Kansas. Arnold continued working for Santa Fe Railroad for over 33 years until he retired in the early 1970's.

He was a member of the Santa Fe Machinist Union, the Veterans of Foreign War, and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and painting ceramics.

His family includes:
His son: Larry Paulsen and wife, Debra of Victorville, CA;
His daughter: Sylva C. Maxted and husband, Arthur of Wichita;
His 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, and wife Arnold was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellan Finch and Hanna Ryberg.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 03, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, January 02, 2011. The family will greet visitors at this time.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Paulsen's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
