ANNA "BERNICE" RITCHARDS, 85, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, July 27, 2008, at her home.
Born on April 12, 1923 in El Dorado, Kansas, she was the daughter of James Milton "Jim" and Helen Alma (Fleming) Rozar. She was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. She attended several trade schools, including Upholstery and Home Decorating.
Bernice was united in marriage to William Ritchards on May 27, 1942 in Sedan, Kansas. Mr. Ritchards preceded her in death on February 2, 2005.
She held various office jobs throughout her life. Her most recent job was at Cessna in Wichita where she was a Sheet Metal Mechanic. Bernice retired from Cessna in 1983.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was actively involved with the Open Door, Inc. in Arkansas City. She enjoyed painting and sewing and loved her jewelry. The majority of her jewelry was made by herself and her husband.
Her family includes:
Her daughters: Mauree Saad and husband, Jim of Wichita; and Marsha Hicks and husband, Paul of Arkansas City;
Her brother: Charles Rozar;
Her sisters: Gladys Lumley and Nancy Davis;
Her grandchildren: Paul Shaw, Anthony Harris, Anna Langston Simbeck, Gentry Cummins, Marsha Bonnell, and Piper Medina; and
Her great-grandchildren: Dallas Harris, Matthew Simbeck, Alyssa Simbeck, Layne Bonnell, Chaise Bonnell, JayLeigh Rae Snow, Cameron Simbeck, RiLee Bonnell, Kale Bonnell, and Baby Cummins on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Julie (Hix) Snow, her brothers, J.W., Leo, and Joe Rozar, and her sister Aretha Reeves.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday morning, July 31, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday evening from 5 to 9 P.M.
