Obituary

ANN M. GROOM, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2013 at her home.

Born on March 26, 1935 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Fannie (Carr) McFarland. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1953. She also attended Oklahoma Christian College in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Ann was employed for Phillips Oil in Bartlesville as a secretary. She later worked for JJ Banks where she met her future husband, John H. Groom. The couple was united in marriage on January 16, 1960 in Great Bend, Kansas. They moved to Winfield in and she was employed as a secretary at several places including Higginbottom, William Newton Memorial Hospital, Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and the Winfield SRS. Ann retired in 1995.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and camping.

Her 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

A viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 22, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening. A graveside memorial inurnment service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Ann's name for Harden Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
