Obituary

Angela G. (Stafford) Brungardt died peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Winfield, Kansas.

Angela was born on October 17, 1921, in Wichita, Kansas, to Frank and Lottie (Aaron) Stafford. She grew up in Wichita with two older brothers, John and Tom, and one older sister, Charlotte. She graduated as valedictorian from Wichita Cathedral High School in 1939 and from Sacred Heart Junior College in 1941. She also attended Wichita Business College. Until her marriage she worked as an executive secretary for H.C. Brady Realty Company.

She married Linus J. Brungardt on July 28, 1952, at St. Anthony's Church in Wichita. Their five children were born in Wichita. They moved their family to Winfield in 1966.

Angela devoted herself to the raising of her five children. She stressed the importance of education by helping her children with their studies, anything from algebra to spelling. In the 1970's Angela worked at Wm. Newton Memorial Hospital and in the Cowley County Treasurer's Office. As a member of Holy Name Catholic Church since 1966 she volunteered in many capacities for the parish and for its school over the years. She took particular satisfaction in composing the Holy Name Parish weekly bulletin for 25 years, working with seven pastors over those years.

In her later years Angela and Linus enjoyed making annual trips to visit their children living in various parts of the country and taking scenic bus tours. Angela and Linus delivered Meals on Wheels for fifteen years. A day rarely went by that she did not solve the crossword puzzles, Crytoquips, and Jumble in the daily newspapers. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and hearts.

Angela is survived by Linus, her husband of over 57 years, and her children, Sister Charlotte Brungardt, Great Bend, KS; Catherine and Gary Kostlan, Saline, MI; Clement and Phyllis Brungardt, Oxford, PA; Christopher and Christine Brungardt, Reading, MA; and Charles Brungardt, Iowa City, IA. She also leaves four grandchildren, Sarah Brungardt, Ray Kostlan, Ben Brungardt, and Beth Brungardt. Angela was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John and Tom, and sister Charlotte.

The Rosary will be recited Friday, March 26, 7:30 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 27, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church followed by the interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.
