Alma Mae Leavell, 102, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, April 22, 2022, at Winfield Senior Living.

Born July 9, 1919, in Burden, Kansas, she was the daughter of Elmer and Mae (Anders) Cales. She was raised on a farm near Burden. As a young woman, Alma worked at McMannis and Walker Grocery.

She was united in marriage to Albert Earl "Bud" Leavell on July 12, 1937, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Alma worked in housekeeping for many local businesses including the Methodist churches and Social Security. She later worked in housekeeping for Dr. Rupp and Dr. Gibson, retiring in 1997. Alma and her son Marvin owned and operated a greenhouse, Paradise Gardens for many years together.  Bud preceded her in death on March 27, 2003.

She was a member of First Christian Church until the church dissolved. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, and hook rug cross-stitch.

Her family includes her son Marcus Leavell of Ponca City, OK; her grandchildren, Marcus Chad Leavell and wife, Sara; her great grandchildren, Meredith and Jake Leavell and one on the way; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alma was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Leavell, four brothers, Ralph, Mose, Lloyd, and Elmer, and her step-father G.W. Dyer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Alma's name for the Winfield Isle of Lights. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
