Martin, Sr.

Allen V. Martin, Sr., 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, February 20, 2021 at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born May 1, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Houston and Gladys (Giggy) Martin. He was raised and received his education while on the family farm in Norwich, Kansas. Allen joined the United States Army in November 1944 working as a mail handler in San Francisco, California. He served his country until his honorable discharge on May 17, 1946.
Allen was united in marriage to Patsy A. Jones on December 24, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Allen began his career as Route Salesman for Coca Cola, before moving over to Pepsi Cola in 1951. He remained at Pepsi for over 40 years retiring in 1990. After retiring he continued stocking shelves for Pepsi for another eight years. Allen enjoyed riding his motorcycle and having coffee at McDonalds and then biscuits and gravy at Bleu's, during retirement. Patsy preceded him in death on February 11, 2017.
Allen was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Winfield, and the antique car club. He enjoyed waterskiing, camping, woodworking, and playing shuffleboard.
His family includes his son Allen V. Martin, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Winfield; his daughters, Gloria Stoddard and husband, Gilbert of Winfield; Teresa Wylie and husband, Rick of Derby; his 19 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Allen was preceded in death by two sons, Anvil and Alvin Martin, a daughter Linda Miller, three brothers, Keith Summers, Alvin Martin, and Houston Martin, and one sister Mary Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will be held on March 12, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Milton Cemetery in Milton, Kansas. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Allen's name for the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
