Alice "Merle" Winn, 93, of McPherson, Kansas, previously of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, May 20, 2016 at The Cedars in McPherson.
Born January 28, 1923 in Mexia, Alabama, she was the daughter of William Thomas and Barbara Ann (Brown) Stanton. She was raised and received her education in Alabama. While she was young she helped work on the family farm, and later worked at Brookley Field in Mobile Alabama.
While attending a dance with the USO, Merle met Paul Robert "Bob" Winn. The couple were married on July 2, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. They made their home in Winfield, Kansas where Merle worked as a clerk at Albertson's IGA. Mr. Winn preceded her in death on January 11, 2016.
She was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her daughters: Sandy Yianakopulos and husband, Larry of McPherson; Paula Shearhart and husband, Jerry of McPherson;
Her grandchildren: Larry Yianakopulos, Jr., Jimmy Yianakopulos, Scott Yianakopulos, Jason Murray, Matthew Murray, Melissa Yncera, and Wiley Shearhart; and
Her 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Merle was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Tomlinson and her brother, W.T. Stanton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors at that time.
A memorial has been established in Merle's name for Reno County Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
