ALICE F. SMITH, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, March 25, 2014 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born on May 31, 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the daughter of Oly Oliver and Bessie Rose (Lessenden) Richards. She graduated from Beverly Rural High School in 1937 and also attended Fort Hays University for one year.

Alice taught school in Lincoln County, Kansas from 1938 to 1941 and was employed at Beech Aircraft in Wichita from 1944 to 1945.

She was united in marriage to Paul Dean Smith on April 15, 1946 in Wilson, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Westfall, Kansas. In 1947, the couple moved to Tibbetts, Missouri where they operated a dairy. They moved to Jacksonville, Illinois in 1948 where they resided until 1954 when they moved to Winfield. The couple owned and operated S & S Electronics until retiring in 1986. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on November 27, 2004.

Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield where she had served as deacon. She also was a member of the Murray-Rockhold Circle, helped with Kids of the Kingdom, taught Sunday School youth and belonged to the Tuesday at Ten Ladies Group. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and embroidery.

Her daughters: Deanna K. Schwartze of Kansas City, KS; Paula M. Dillon of Wichita, KS; and Judy A. Kraus and husband Ken of Winfield, KS;

Her daughter-in-law: April Smith of Winfield, KS;

Her grandchildren: Thane L.T. Thompson, Jeremy D. Dillon, Jeffrey E. Dillon, Courtney D. Smith, Cassie R. Smith and Chelsea E. Smith; and

Her great-grandchildren: Alexas Dillon, Jordan Dillon, Caleb Dillon, Kelsey Dillon, Alyvia Dillon and Aalyiah Dillon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael D. Smith; her daughter, Karen L. Thompson; and her brother, N. Dale Richards.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, March 28, 2014. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Mrs. Smith's name for the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund and Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
