Alice M Jones, Manhattan, Kansas passed away December 24, 2017.
Alice was born Feb.14, 1919 on a farm north of Winfield, daughter of James Erbie King and Elsie Wright King. She attended Grandview Grade School, Winfield High School and graduated from Wichita State University in 1940. The following year she taught in Burr Oak High School and then moved to Waynesville, MO where she managed a photo and gift shop.
In 1943, she met and married Noel W Morgan. They had two daughters, Sharon and Tamara. Noel and Alice owned and operated photo and gift shops in Texas and Colorado. Noel preceded her in death.
In 1952, she returned to Wichita and returned to teaching. She married John R Jones in 1955 and they both continued teaching. They retired in 1980 and moved to Winfield in 1985. John and Alice enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends, gardening and spending time with their children and grandchildren. For nearly 100 years, Alice was the example of adaptability, resourcefulness and courage.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband John, a daughter Sharon, a grandson Graham, six brothers: Vivian, Clarence, Everett, Ernest, Joe, and Lawrence. And four sisters: Clara Colglazier, Olive Hegebush, Margaret Musgrave and Martha King.
Survivors include a daughter Tamara and her husband William Dorsett, Manhattan, KS, two grandsons, Nathan, Portland, OR, Simon, Winfield, KS and a great granddaughter Madison, Manhattan, KS, a step daughter Barbara A Rowlett and her family in Tennessee and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Good Shepard House in Manhattan or Riley County Seniors Services Center in Manhattan. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Private graveside services are scheduled with Miles Funeral Service at Highland Cemetery.
