Alfred H. Walters, age 95, passed away peacefully at Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas on July 4, 2021.

Alfred was born March 16, 1926, in rural Bison, Oklahoma, to Frank and Olga (Pipla) Walters.  He was the youngest of four children:  Mildred, Adolph, Ella.  His father died of injuries in a cattle related incident at their farm home when Alfred was two, leaving his mother to raise the children alone.  She was a wonderful mother, working so hard caring for the children and the farm with none of the modern-day conveniences such as running water or electricity.

Alfred graduated high school in 1944 at Pioneer Consolidated School.  He served our country in World War II in the U.S. Army.  Going over by ship, he landed under fire on Omaha Beach on D-Day.  He fought in France and Germany.  His brother, Adolph, was killed in battle and is buried in one of the large cemeteries there.

On return home from the war, Alfred began his career in 1946 in the offices of the local Enid family-owned Champlin Refinery.  Over the years, the company was taken over by other companies, making other name changes.  It is now Anadarko.  Alfred retired from there after 30 years.

Alfred and Patty Lou Morris were married in November 1949 and celebrated 71 years of marriage.  God blessed them with two wonderful sons, Byron Lee and Troy Lynn.  Over the years, they have been blessed to serve in several Enid Baptist Churches.  Patty served as church organist at most of them.  Alfred was unable to attend the last few years due to health, but watched on TV.

On December 18, 2019, he entered Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas with failing health and Alzheimers, where he received wonderful care.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Patty; sons, Byron (Vicki) Walters; Troy (Angela) Walters; granddaughters, Lisa McCloud (Rob), Ashely Stevens (Josh); grandson, Jordan Walters; great-granddaughters, Madeline and Abigail McCloud; great-grandson, Rhett Stevens; sister-in-law, Oletta Dotson (Stanley); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, two sisters, grandparents, one grandson, one brother-in-law, and his wife's parents, John and Charlotte Morris.

A private funeral service was held July 20, 2021 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield followed by a graveside service at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery near the Veterans Home.  Chaplain Layton Hein officiated the service.
