Obituary

ALFRED E. TAYLOR, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, March 19, 2011 at Good Samaritan Society.

Born November 6, 1913 in Burden, Kansas, he was the son of Virgil and Marion (Cunningham) Taylor. He was the only boy of seven children. Alfred attended grade school at Old Salem. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1932.

He was a member of the FFA and helped his dad farm. Alfred was united in marriage to Coleitto Foster on February 3, 1938 at his sister's home in Fredonia, Kansas. He then began farming northwest of Winfield, between Oxford and Udall. He took his family to the Oxford Methodist Church where all were active for many years. Alfred retired from farming in 1978 and moved to Winfield.

He then worked as a janitor for Southwestern College and volunteered at William Newton Hospital and delivered for Meals on Wheels. He later cared for his wife due to her immobility from Arthritis. After losing Coleitto in 2001, Alfred remained in his home until January of 2011, when he moved to the Good Samaritan Society.

His family includes:
His sons: Edward Taylor and wife, Martha of Todd, North Carolina; Gaylord Taylor and wife, Pat of Wichita, Kansas; and Loren Taylor and wife, Donnah of Wichita, Kansas;
His daughters: Thelma Wallace and husband, George of Winfield, Kansas; and Joyce Grieve and husband, Steve of Udall, Kansas;
His sister: Alta Mae Boatman of Winfield;
His 11 grandchildren: Arlene Blackburn, Glen Taylor, Julie Dickison, Tamee Peresko, Garren Taylor, Darlene, Clark, Debra and Kyle Wallace, and Jeff and Nathan Grieve; and
His 16 great-grandchildren: Leslie, Brian, Audrey, Austin, Parker, Collin, Madison, Christian, Hunter, Tyler, Matthew, Nicole, Taylor, Alexis, Blake and Samuel.

In addition to his parents and wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his sisters Nellie Taylor, Opal McConaghy, Pansy King, Bessie Likins and Nina Krepps.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 to 8 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Alfred's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
