Obituary

AGNES KELLER, a longtime resident of Winfield, Kansas, died July 27, 2013, at Reflection Living's Pearl House in Wichita, Kansas at age 101.

Agnes Weyant was born July 11, 1912 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Gilbert and Esther (Messing) Weyant. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1930 and attended Kansas State University for one year.

On December 15, 1935, she was married to Sylvester H. "Sam" Keller of Halstead, Kansas in her parents' home in Abilene. They lived in several towns in north-central Kansas and in Oklahoma before moving to Winfield in 1946. He was the district conservationist for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Winfield until he retired in 1972. He died in 2002.

Agnes worked at the Winfield Public Library and as a bookkeeper at First National Bank of Winfield from 1957 until 1972.

Her greatest joy throughout her adult life was her family. Although her children and grandchildren were scattered from the Kansas City area to Hawaii, she tried to never miss a wedding, graduation, or family reunion. She received her first computer at age 78, and wrote a weekly "Tuesday letter" summarizing the activities of members of her extended family, which she distributed by e-mail. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Winfield, where she was actively involved in Sunday School as well as several women's activities. Her hobbies were genealogy and quilting, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble.

Survivors include:
Her four children and their spouses: Clayton and Phyllis Keller of Overland Park, Kansas; Warren and Jody Keller of Berkeley, California; Judy and Larry Hatteberg of Wichita; and Carole and Gregg Cranston of Grand Junction, Colorado;
10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and another on the way; and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Agnes was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Reverend Beth Wilke of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held beginning at 10:30 A.M. preceding the service.

A Memorial has been established in Agnes' name for the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
