Abraham Joseph Topper, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, January 23, 2019 at his home.

Born February 8, 1929 in New Salem, Kansas, he was the son of Benton and Goldie Topper. He was raised and received his education in New Salem. After school he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in World War II. After his honorable discharge he returned to Kansas and lived in Burden.

He was united in marriage to Vonda Reames on September 10, 1954 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Burden where Abraham went to work for Santa Fe Railroad before going to work for the County of Cowley County. He remained at the county for several years until retiring in 1993. Mrs. Topper preceded him in death on January 13, 2007.

His family includes his son Michael Topper of Winfield; his sister Sarah Heilig of Arkansas City; his grandchildren, Raydel Massey, Craig Topper, Nathan Topper, Lorine Topper and his 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to his parents and wife, Abraham was preceded in death by a son Dennis Topper, five brothers and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Inurnment will be held at Burden Cemetery at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Abraham's name for the American Alzheimer Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
