Obituary

A. Ruth Curfman, 95, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 15, 2013 two weeks shy of her 96th birthday, at Arbor House Assisted Living in Marble Falls, Texas.

Born October 30, 1917 in Fairfax, Oklahoma, the youngest of four children, she was the daughter of Cleveland F. and Ardella Mae (Beard) Knedler. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City, Kansas where she graduated from Arkansas City High School. She later attended Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City. After school she began teaching in a one room school near Udall.

Ruth was united in marriage to Carroll Curfman on June 26th 1938. The couple were married for 71 years and had four children. After her children were out of the house, Ruth took a job as Christian Education Director at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. After retiring Ruth and Carroll traveled extensively, including a trip to Isreal with the Winfield Oratorio Society, for a performance of Elijah. Mr. Curfman preceded her in death on May 21, 2009.

Her family includes:
Her sons: Ronald Curfman and wife, Dee of Magnolia, TX; Darrell Curfman and wife, Mary of Kansas City, MO;
Her daughter: Carolyn Furrh and husband, Jack of Meadow Lakes, TX;
Her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Ruth was preceded in death by her son Richard Curfman.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday October 21, 2013 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. The family will receive visitors at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield immediately following the service. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Ruth's name for the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
